Consignment Information and Forms

Free coin appraisals. Find out what your coins are worth!

GreatCollections can help in several ways to identify your coins and help you find out what your coins are worth.

First, we have an extensive database of coins sold by GreatCollections since our very first auction, and you can search all of these items in the search box above. Please note, once you search for a particular item, there is an option in the left navigation to add "Completed Items" to your search options. You can also browse our Coin Prices Realized by Denomination.

Second, we sell the Red Book Guide to U.S. Coins...A cheap $10-15 book on coins contains a wealth of information. View the Red Book Price Guide of U.S. Coins.

Third, if you have digital images of your coins, please e-mail them to [email protected] and we will respond with our opinion. Alternatively, you can fill out our exclusive online coin estimate form.

Please note, the value of coins greatly depends upon rarity and condition. While we will try to work out the condition from images sent to us, at times, we are simply unable to offer an opinion without seeing the coin in person.

If you have any questions about consigning or what your coins are worth, please do not hesitate to contact us. Telephone us at 1.800.44.COINS (+1.949.679.4180) or e-mail [email protected].

Frequently Asked Questions about Coin Values

What fees do you charge for valuations?
GreatCollections does not charge for informal coin valuations or opinions. Please use our online coin estimate form, e-mail [email protected] or telephone 1.800.442.6467 and we would be pleased to give you an idea of value of your coins.

How do I ship coins to GreatCollections?
If you are ready to consign, we recommend shipping coins through the United States Postal Service via Registered Insured Mail or Priority Insured Mail. This is the safest way to transport coins. If you have coins worth more than $25,000 to sell, please contact us for special instructions. We will notify you the day your coins arrive.

Are my coins insured?
Yes, from the moment your coin(s) arrive at GreatCollections, they are fully insured through our extensive policy with Lloyd's of London. A copy of our insurance certificate is available by request.

When can I expect payment?
While our terms and conditions state that all consignors will be paid within 30 days, we routinely pay our consignors early (usually within 7-14 days). GreatCollections can also give you an instant cash advance of up to half of their value (for certified coins). For more information about cash advances, please call Ian Russell at 1.800.44.COINS (+1.949.679.4180) or e-mail [email protected].

What happens if my coins don't sell?
Our sell-through rate is very high at GreatCollections. In the unlikely event your coins do not sell, we will reoffer them in another auction. If they remain unsold, we will return them to you at our expense and invoice you for the grading fees.

About GreatCollections

GreatCollections was founded by Ian Russell as a marketplace to serve the rare coin and bullion community. Though there are many places to buy and sell coins, very few ensure that the transaction is conducted in a safe and secure manner while keeping both parties confidential.

GreatCollections offers collectors an extensive selection of certified coins ranging in price from $25 up to $10,000s. All coins have been professionally listed and imaged by GreatCollections expert staff and most are certified by the leading third-party grading companies. Since GreatCollections has possession of all items being offered for sale, GreatCollections will ship your auction winnings and purchases to you securely and promptly. Sellers consign to GreatCollections to take advantage of our low commission rates, which work out in most cases to be cheaper than if they did all the work themselves.
