New Black Retro Labels from NGC

Ian Russell on Sat, Oct 13, 2012 05:30:53 PM
NGC recently came up with a very good idea to celebrate their 25th Anniversary (impressive to note that over the past 25 years, they have graded 25 million coins!).  The idea is the Black Retro holder, which pays homage to the original black holder used by NGC in 1987 for a very short period of time.

The original black holders are rarely seen on the market and command huge premiums...probably the biggest premium for any of certified coin holder.  I'd imagine the next one to appear on GreatCollections will sell for $1500-$2500, even if the coin in the holder is a common date Morgan Dollar in MS-63.

The new Retro Holder is only available for a limited time, and also only for certain denominations of coins.

We received the first one on consignment about 10 days ago, and it was the 1995-W $1 Silver Eagle, graded NGC Proof-69 UC.  Bidding ends Sunday, October 14th.
