DMPL/PL Morgan Dollar Selection...A very popular area of collecting Morgan Dollars is DMPL and PL examples. DMPL stands for Deep Mirror Proof Like, while PL is Proof Like. These terms relate to reflective the fields are on the coin. DMPL will be strong mirror fields, while PL is slightly less - these coins often give the impression of being a Proof coin, however, they were struck for circulation. We regularly have DMPL and PL coins in our auctions, however, on Friday, a special group arrived that warrants mentioning here. These are high grade examples - that rarely come on the market. The 1880-S in NGC MS-68 PL for example - only 7 of these coins have been graded by NGC at this grade with none finer (although a lone PCGS example graded 69!).
