About Hawaiian Issues: Five official coins were minted for the Kingdom of Hawaii: the 1847 Cent and the 1883 Dime, Quarter, Half Dollar and Dollar. After Hawaii became a US territory in 1900, they were no longer considered legal tender and most were removed from circulation and melted. Plantation tokens, issued by private firms, were also used as a medium of exchange on plantations and company stores.
