Description: | Recently discovered by the Wheeler Family, this coin resided in their multi-generation family collection for many decades. Likely unique for the series. All 19th century coins struck on incorrect planchets are exceedingly rare. NGC has noted as being from 1871-1875 on the holder, based on the 6.2 grams weight of quarter, design and years that quarters were minted in San Francisco. We believe it was minted in 1874 based on die diagnostics. For the advanced Error specialist, Seated collector or even as a standalone for numismatists who appreciate major rarities. |
