Ultra High Relief (UHR) Trifecta Sells for $16,000The coin has a PCGS population of just 15 examples and it is the first of the 15 sold on GreatCollections.com. It was listed last week with a minimum bid of $12,500 or Buy Now of $16,000. If someone had bid the minimum $12,500, then the Buy Now would have disappeared and it would have ended next Sunday by auction. The buyer obviously didn't want to risk losing the coin for a higher bid and elected to use the Buy Now option instead.
The U.S. Mint issued the Ultra High Relief in 2009 at an issue price of just $1,189. Even the basic coins that grade MS-69 regularly trade for over $2,650 today, which represents one of the best investments in coins over the past few years for a new issue. Some clients were lucky and received Prooflike examples, which can sell for over $7,000 each.
