2008-W Reverse of 2007 Silver Eagles
Ian Russell on Sat, Mar 10, 2012 11:23:57 AM
The 2008-W Burnished Silver Eagle comes with two distinct different versions of the reverse.  The normal 2008-W, is the newer style with a fancier "U" with a serif underneath the right of the "U".  A limited number of coins were erroneously minted using the reverse of the 2007 Silver Eagle, which has an uneven "U" and without a serif underneath the right of the "U".

The Reverse of 2007 is much scarcer than the normal issue.  According to CoinWorld, there are approximately 47,000 coins bearing the reverse of 2007, based on information from the U.S. Mint who located 15 incorrect dies.
